Once again we found ourselves in Seattle over the winter. It was great to be blessed with another set of holidays with my folks!
One of the reasons we were here again was because of Mica. She was scheduled for her THIRD knee surgery. Why did we choose to have it done here, when her prior surgeries were in Boise? The surgeon in the Seattle area that was recommended to us actually specializes in her specific issue! We originally thought they would have to “break” her femurs and change their orientation a bit, but after consultation with the surgeon, we decided that wasn’t needed. We just needed a way more aggressive surgery but similar to what we’ve already had. He not only installed pins, but he also used wire. It’s now been a couple of months since this surgery and she’s doing well, and the knees are still in place and holding. She’s getting stronger every day, and pushing her limits. She still isn’t too good at climbing or jumping, but she is starting to stand up on her hind legs more, and when she’s walking, her knees aren’t collapsing.
We visited the Starbucks Roastery in downtown Seattle. They actually roast beans there for packaging. You can watch the process. They also have a food counter making paninis and pizza, a cold brew coffee and nitro bar, and lots of souvenirs. The place smelled so good! It was also very busy. We took our time, though, and made sure we saw everything. If you like coffee, even if you don’t like Starbucks, it’s worth the visit just to see how it works.
Around Christmas time, we went out looking for lights. We found a really crazy house out by Alki point in West Seattle. Apparently, the Menashe family put on this display every year. We also visited the Botanical Gardens in Bellevue for their night light display. It didn’t really compare to the Idaho Botanical Gardens in Boise in size, but it was quaint and you could tell they worked really hard to get the details right.
Finally, we got snow. In Seattle again. But lots of it! An AMAZING amount for the area! We have heard that Seattle got more snow in one day then it does in a typical year! In Seatac, we ended up with about 14 inches total. We are still happy with our trailer. It’s well insulated, and the dual pane windows don’t ever get any condensation on them.
We are still here, and will be here for a few more weeks. We have a couple of really big projects coming up on the trailer. One will be done here, and one will be back in Boise. One will be for safety, and one will be for communications. More to come!
